Day 8 Clinton, Ok to Tucumcari, NM

Ok, so here we are again, hope all readers are well. Our stats tell us we have at least 20 readers of this humble post, which in itself is humbling.

We travelled out of Oklahoma today, and travelled right across the "Pan Handle" of Texas, and found ourselves 311 miles later (450 odd klm) at Tucumcari, NM (New Mexico). We set off early (7:00 am), the wind was with us again straight away, however, luckily it wasn't as big an issue as yesterday. We actually heard on the TV tonight that the winds yesterday were up to 90 mph, which doesn't really surprise us.

Texas here we come

Its Party Time

Had a quick drink here
We made good time today and were in Amarillo, Texas by lunch. So went to check out the local Harley dealer - "Tripps" HD (not a shade on Illinois Harley), then had birthday lunch at a cool spot, see below.

Whilst we are on the subject of birthdays, we would both like to thank all the thoughtfull people sending texts at 3:00am in the morning. It's wonderfull to know so many people are thinking about us.  We know who you are!
Cadiialc Ranch

How bizzare is this? a dozen or so Cadillacs inverted into the ground in the middle of a working farm on the side of the road. People bring their own spray paint, and add their own touch to it. in some spots the paint is at least an inch thick!

So here we are we have made it half way!
Half way is good right? We can't believe we have come this far, and have to do it all again to get to Santa Monica.

The roads are getting faster and flatter, so thats in our favour. Ripping along at 80mph on the Interstate is great, but we are trying to cover Route 66 as much as possible, which means about 60mph (100klm/hr).

Love to all, Dave & Mick

  3. Still can't believe those winds - and the prairies are just so flat and treeless - nothing like the land of OZ !!!! Dad is following you on the atlas - just looking up today's blog as I write. Has just found Tucumcari. The cadillacs are unreal - something you would have to see to appreciate - almost a work of art. The post office looked interesting!! Again very different to our staid PO's. Glad Mick enjoyed a flash birthday meal! Lots of love Mum XXXXXXXXXXX :)
