Day 9 Tucumcari, NM to Gallup, NM.

Got away nice and early again today, it makes a big difference, we piled on the miles early, and ended up doing 415 miles (660Klm). The difference is now there are much less towns now. And able to cruise at 140 klm/hr ( legally ). The open plains have opened up to more open plains but with the typical flat topped mountains everywhere.

Santa Fe

Had Lunch up stairs  here
Santa Fe was an oasis, still not sure why it is here, but thats ok. Its a lovely place, all the buildings in the region are made the same way with the earthy mud brick look.

Maggies Diner!
Some of you may recognise Maggies Diner, those of you don't, could rent "Wild Hogs" from the Video store.

Nearly bought some boots here Amber, but they were all second hand :(.

This is Madrid, Nm where the movie was shot. its a really cool little town. Apparently they took over the town for 3 months for shooting film.

This is wher we ended up tonight, the dodgiest Motel we have been in, but hey it was cheap, and a bar down the road.

Were going to hit the Mojave Desert tommorrow, we have caught up some time, so we are all set to met the girls in Vegas on Sunday now we hope. So with the extra time, we are planning to check out the Grand Canyon, and go through Monument Valley. We will miss a small section of Route 66, but we can live with that.

So we will get to Flagstaff Az tommorrow, and see where we go from there.

Oh, we swapped bikes today, so that was a cool change. Mick (Michael) enjoyed the added grunt of the  Springer. I also enjoyed the tunes through the radio, bopping along all day.

Hasta La Vista, Dave & Mick.

  1. I liked the earthy look of the buildings in Santa Fe - quite unique. Over 600 kms in one day is a lot of riding - wow - hope the seat is comfy! Can't even imagine what it's like to travel at 140kms. Never heard of Maggie's Diner so I will check out the video shop tomorrow for Wild Hogs.Looking forward to seeing the grand canyon pics.LOve Mum and Dad XX
